Wow, this is really so cool. Back home we didn't have things like this because NY can't have nice things (unless they are heavily taxed but also people abuse things that are supposed to be beneficial to the community). The only thing I can't seem to wrap my mind around is why the beam app itself doesn't offer an in-house navigation solution. It does have a map, but it'd be awesome to pick a destination and go to it. Google doesn't always consider restricted areas as well as you'd hope.

Terrible!! I could not get a scooter to work. I tried two. The first one would not go, and the second one kept screaming loud noises at me. I was charged $10!! No refund. I was only using it for 13 minutes trying to get it to work and I didn't move more than 3 metres. Shocking service. Both were fully charged too, I checked. I will never be using again.

This app refuses to end your trip when you try to. It has charged me more than 10 minutes extra on multiple rides. I believe this may be intentional. They do not respond to support texts. The app has NO problem starting a ride... but seems to be broken every time I try to end a ride resulting in over charging my card. This should be looked into for fraud.

App stability issues on up to date Samsung Galaxy S24. Reactivating app opens to a screen without a map, requiring the app to be restarted. Wastes precious time on a trip when trying to check the map when navigating a route. The other problem is using the app in a tropical area, the phone can overheat. The phone cradle could do with a shade to avoid having to stop/start to check the map.

I use Beam scooters in Wellington, but recently rented one in Queenstown to travel to my destination, only to find there was an $18 parking fee. $18?, for what would have been a $5 ride without the rip off parking charge. Incidentally, in Queenstown, the parking charge was applied over the vast majority of the map. The map doesn't advertise the actual parking charge fee, so you only find that out once you arrive. I won't be using a Beam scooter in Queenstown again, probably not home either. Con

A great service, incredible product yet extremely poor quality assurance. I've had numerous cases of various scooters not working yet still being visible on the app as an available scooter, poorly maintained scooters with half the safety features such as the bell, brake and go button not fully functioning and issues where the beam map isn't accurate and wrongly displays information: showing that a beam is available in a designated parking spot only to find out that it's nowhere to be seen.

$52 for a 40 mins ride (2 people) but the scooter broke down twice, acceleration is inconsistent, price not shown while riding, map blanks out halfway through ride, scooter locks up when it runs out of charge (no chance to park in dedicated area), cannot unlock only 1 bike in group ride. Terrible! Would not recommend

It's a good system, and the convenience is great. However I'm giving it a lower rating as I constantly finish the safe ride training, and it always says I failed, even though I always have a perfect score
